In the picture I have a threadless shard with part of the pin still intact. After a time of tugging gently at it, the pin came out leaving what looks like canvas with a lot of white powder all over it and the pin. Evidently this was used to glue the insulator on the pin, or make up for a pin that was too small. Either way, this has got to be pretty seldom seen.
