Here's a pair of 4160V risers that once served part of south-central Sioux Falls. By the time I got this picture, the lower circuit had been re-powered from a step-down on an adjacent 13.8kV circuit. I always thought the arrangement on the upper arm was interesting. It should also be noted that there had been some kind of flashover at some point as there are multiple damaged insulators and parts. A few months after this picture, the lower circuit was removed entirely and the upper arm was rebuilt to 13.8kV. The pothead risers and accompanying lead cable were abandoned in place, even after the substation was wrecked out. The company came through a few months ago to do some maintenance on the 69kV line and they finally cleaned out the abandoned risers. |
