I've decided to part out this wildly crude Diamond CD 102 with enormous bubbles protruding off of the threads in the pinhole. This one is a type 1 Diamond pony and is a dark brown amber colour. The bubbles range in size, with the largest being just over 1 1/8" in length by about 3/4" width (just above and to the right of the diamond), and the smallest being tiny fizzy bubbles that are distributed all throughout the skirt. The threads in the pinhole are severely distorted because of the bubbles, which have pushed them apart in various directions. The colour of this piece is quite dark, so it requires a bright source of light (natural sunlight will do) to really show off the bubbles. It also has quite a lot of straw marks all over its surface and a nice veil of steam cascading down the rear skirt.

This piece originated from a large collection of telephone insulators that were salvaged from a telephone line that ran along a roadway in Lanark County, Ontario in the 1970s. A friend and I bought and split the collection years ago and this was one of the pieces I chose to keep. There were easily 150 of these dark Diamond ponies in the collection and I checked every one - this was the only one with any significant character.

It's in good condition overall, but does have one 1.2 cm flake on the outer base edge just behind the left mould line.

Since I'm not really a pony collector and I still seem to have a lot of them around, I've decided I can afford to see it go if the right piece shows up in trade. As usual, I'm looking for early Canadian glass (threaded or threadless) or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I have a long-standing want list of Canadian-made porcelain posted, [id=505519866; please click here to see it]. Feel free to get in touch if you have something I might like!
