Went for a drive today after putting on my winter tires, and decided to go to the railway nearby and then back home. I've been on a hunting hiatus for about a year, and wasn't intending to go looking, as I had hunted this line many times before to find the odd early threaded stuff. The line was known for its slope shoulder 133.?'s (the number escapes me) and Montreal 143's. Upon arriving, I knew there had been some culvert work done near the crossing, but never bothered to take a closer look. Today I noticed the ditch along the pole side of the tracks had been cleaned out for about half a mile. Several poles with commons still adorned this stretch, and most had been knocked over and buried in the fill. I walked the length of the work area, finding lots of commons, but something caught my eye on the way back. I found what looked like a broken 143 or 133, and instead found this. It's broken, and I had no digging implements, but I'll be going back tomorrow to find the rest. As far as I knew, nobody had found one of these here. Pretty neat though! |
