Being a porcelain collector I mainly collected porcelain fence insulators and the Surge glass pieces. I decided to take a venture into the lowest of the low insulator collecting chain. The plastic fence insulator. When I finished my research a few weeks back I was surprised as to the many neat styles there were. The following pictures are of the most interesting and commonly used plastic pieces. This picture, left to right: Marked Red Snap'r Pat. Pend. No tie design. Dare had a similar design that was called The Black Widow. Next is the only plastic insulator I've seen by Wisconcin Porcelain co. marked WP 17. Since they were a porcelain Co. and made products for other companies and there own line, it makes me wonder why. Perhaps they wanted to try a different venue to compete with the china made porcelain ones. Next is marked Dare 241 Pat Pend. 22, It could accomidate two strung wires. The next two are marked Dare U.S.A. 15. One in white and one in red. There is also a black colored one. The last piece is marked Dare J. It's called the Elfin Style and is the smallest of the nail knob styles. |
