Joseph Napoleon Lisee (called Nap) was the hull designer. He designed Chris Smith's (founder of the Chris Craft Company) Gold Cup race boat taking it to winning the 1916 Gold Cup. Nap went onto designing the Miss America's for Chris and Garwood and continued winning the Detroit races. First Gold Cup speeds with these big boats was 67 MPH in 1916, then hitting 125 MPH by 1922. |
