I was on my way to a junk shop when I stumbled upon a yard sale that looked promising. So I stopped and asked if he had any insulators. He said, "Just that barrel load over there," and he pointed to a large wooden barrel over on the side. I looked in and almost fell over. The barrel was no less than half full of what appeared to be hundreds of CD 102 Brookfield ponies. He didn't have the time to let me cherry-pick through them all, but he was willing to unload the whole lot, including the barrel, for a bargain price. I agreed, and as he started to move it, the bottom fell out of the barrel. So we transferred all of the insulators to a large plastic tote, and when I got them home, I counted 223 CD 102's, mostly Brookfield//New York and Brookfield, with a few W. Brookfields, Stars, one S.F., and one CD 104 NET&T baby beehive. They're all filthy, but I grabbed these two that looked to be the best from the several "end game" Brookies. They're mold twins with an X2 mold number on top, and they're actually slightly darker than the photos, which I lightened up a bit to better show the heavy amber. The one on the right has a front skirt base bruise and a rear base flake. The one on the left is about mint with a white rock in the front crown and a white gob of phlegm in the rear skirt. These are shown in the close-ups. Click on View Original for a better look. |
