I just picked up this nifty Ohio Brass M-2220 with a sort of "pukey" brown glaze. I knew I liked it from the photo the fellow sent me before I had it in hand, but I didn't expect to find that the piece literally had my name on it - well before I was even born. Marked front and centre on it is the name "ED BARRETT" in fine, neatly serifed incused letters. It kind of looks like a rubber ink stamp like you'd find for stamping office documents was used to make the mark. I wonder who Ed was. I wonder if he would have thought that in the year 2023 some guy in Canada who shared a name with him would find his marking and get all excited about it. Somehow I doubt it. I wonder what he'd think if I could tell him all about it. It's fun to imagine how that conversation would go. |
