I picked up a very unusual multi at the 2013 national. An M-4383 marked Victor . This design was not cataloged by Locke and has only been found by collectors in one area near Auburn, California. The insulator was used in the rebuild of the 1899 Alta Powerhouse to Sacramento transmission line around 1907. The line was previously insulated with#1 and #2 Provos. Paul Greaves and I hunted all the sections of the line we could get access to and consistently found shards of M-4383 Victors. In total we only ever recovered enough parts to put one insulator together which Paul has had for many years. A second example surfaced in an antique shop and a 3rd in a lineman's collection that Colin bought. All three examples have the same sandy brown glaze and appear to be from the same production run.
