Who says porcelain spools are boring? Not I! Here's a speckled purplish blue standard spool with a black ink Canadian Line Materials / V marking on top. These have turned up in some areas of SW Ontario but I would describe them as scarce. Several years ago I was able to obtain a few examples from a small accumulation that originated from Niagara Falls, ON. I've not seen many around from any other source. These have an odd character to them, with an unglazed pinhole and a bit of a stockier profile than some spools. The characteristics of their manufacture resemble some Smith & Stone marked spools, so I tend to associate these with S&S out of Georgetown, ON. This example has quite a few tiny fleabites/pecks around both upper and lower edges of the wire groove, similar to what is pictured. These fleabites are around the entire insulator unfortunately. This one also has an open glaze bubble around the top pinhole opening. I'm asking $65 USD plus shipping for this scarce piece. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
