A street view shot of an early transmission line in the Black River Falls, WI area. It looks like it originates at a hydro plant north of Black River Falls and continues to a substation south of Melrose, WI. The book "Transmission Line Construction, methods and costs" by R. A. Lindquist (1912) showed a couple pictures of these towers fitted with large multiparts. I got to see this line at one point, and did poke around one or two towers, finding a few shards of Locke (Victor) insulators - both multipart shell fragments and uniparts that had been on the communications arm. Might be worth checking out before Xcel-Wisconsin decides to do a full rebuild. |
