Dang it my $2 .... 2 piece U-472 is not what it appears !! Last word from Elton and others ... I asked Barrett Nicpon who is an expert on Canadian insulators. He agrees with me that the marking is not real as for as an original manufacturing marking. Canadian Pacific Railway never used CPRR as a marking. The used CPR. An unmarked U-472 in yellow is more easily obtained made by Westinghouse. It would be easy for someone to add the marking with red hobby glaze and fire it in a hobby kiln. Perhaps that is why the insulator fractured the way it did. It wasn't fired or cooled properly. Regards, Elton xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You may have something unique, check with Elton, and see what Ken says, and anyone else you can think of. I enlarged the photo as best as I could and it looks sort of like when we mark a ceramic tile for a wet saw with a sharpie, it looks to be hand printed rather than a stamp. I don't think it's legit. Never saw or heard of one before. That's a new one on me! Get BBC ahold of Barrett Nippon up In Canada, he would go bonkers ! He collects Canadian porcelain ! Let me know what he says! That is the first I have ever seen, if it is stenciled on the surface and not a true underglaze, then it would not be of any additional value. If it was actually used on the Railroad, then it should at least be of interest to Railroad folks. Can't say I recall seeing any red underglazes. |
