Here are some of the glass neon tube supports that I have found. There is supposed to be ones made of porcelain like these but I've yet to find any. These are based on the patent from Daniel B. Allison 2,393,226 Jan 22, 1946. Top Row L-R- Kin an octogon (Knox porcelain Corp?) with spiral ridges clear, No name with spiral ridges clear, Transco, with ribs, clear, T./C. (TRansco Co.) ribs clear, F.M.S. (F.M.S. McMahan Corp), ribs clear, These are held onto the sign with a clip similar to the ones pictured and were patented by Samual C. miller 2,335,296 Nov. 30,1943 and others. Bottom picture is of a recent purchase on eBay. These came from a sign in Hummelstown Pa. They are unique with the hole through the top and bail clip. The bottom is a coiled piece of wire that is bent to secure it to the sign and can be adjusted by screwing the insulator up or down. I have found no patent yet for the bail clip. There are similar patents for an adjustable hold down clip but none that I've found yet exactly like these pieces. Unfortunatly the seller didn't have a picture of the sign they came off of and provided little info. Wish I could have seen them in use. The next picture I posted shows how the typical standoffs and electrode housings were used on a beer sign.
