A short crossarm supporting telephone subscriber lines is lowermost. Interestingly, some had short, twisted crossarm braces. One brace hole went into the crossarm (as usual) and the one that went into the pole was twisted 90-degrees. In other instances, flat 20-inch standard braces were utilized (one per arm). This type of construction for subscriber drops was semi-commonplace at least around here in the Boston vicinity through the 1970s and 80s.

It looks like it was it was a good idea that a few pole guy wires were installed! Otherwise, it probably would have hit the pavement!
