This was a double-circuit 13kv line that was built by the privately-owned Weymouth Light and Power Company. It served much of the town of Hull, MA as well as some of the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant commencing in 1920. As you can see the pole in the photograph is rather crooked. At the time it was no more than ten years old. Thomas multiparts were used along it, from the East Weymouth generating station to the Hull Municipal Light Plant's station on Electric Avenue (now Edgewater Avenue). More details about this rather historic Boston area electric transmission line are posted here: [id=650503924] [id=650507043] for a top view of one of the original Thomas two-piece porcelain insulators with its tie wire and pin. Added note: The two thicker wires pararelling this power line in the foreground are for utility service to this house. |
