This series of posts will detail "smaller" telephone insulators which were found in Boone County, Iowa. The pony and exchange style insulators I will document include: early 1871 style Hemingray; next generation Hemingray; Duqusene Glass Co.; King City Glass Works and Star styles. No Brookfield telephone insulators were recovered from this part of Iowa.

First, I need to tell the reader how these insulators were obtained. The secret to obtaining good insulators in Iowa is to marry a farmers daughter - which I did. My father-in-law farmed 200+ acres which were located off Route 17 and close to the Lincoln Highway (US Route 30) between Boone and Ames, Iowa. Raymond acquired insulators from the late 1930's to 1999 when he passed away. In his work shed, he had a 55 gallon drum filled with various telephone insulators collected as phone lines were rebuilt over the years. When he found out I was an insulator collector, I was given access to these insulators and was told to take any that I liked.

My first post shows three different CD 124.3 insulators found in the 55 gallon drum.
