Here are early patents for the R-1, R-4 and an unknown with inner petticoat. It shows how the insulator replaces a CD 154 in relation to the wire groove and pin. Nobody has ever reported having a Continental straight sided insulator with the inner petticoat. The top looks similar to the R-3 and the NN pieces I have. Since they had a patent granted for inner petticoats they could easily produce them. I am looking for a R-1 Continental piece to add to my collection. If you have one for sale please let me know.
