Another love em or loath em insulator is the Continental Rubber Works replacement insulators. Founded in 1903 in Erie Pennsylvania for the manufacture of bicycle tires, tubes, industrial hose and molded rubber products. They bought the Tribune Bicycle Co. and continued to sell bicycles under that name. They renamed their tires and rubber products Vitalic and the symbol of an Elephant with the logo "tougher than an elephant's hide". In 1941 workers striked for better wages etc. and a deal was made right before the U.S. entered WW2. Sometime during this time they started manufacturing the rubber insulators. They were sold to Erie Forge and Steel in 1961, then sold again in 1963 to Continental Copper & Steel Co. Workers striked again with little success. Company closed sometime in the early 80's I think. Here is some of their products. A rubber mallet 12", and a S hook strap embossed Continental Rubber Works/Erie Pennsylvania. Made in U.S.A./ Pat. Pend. 15". The Vitalic products catalog is from 1935.
