Restored Spokane Portland & Seattle Ry. No. 700 Steams into Sellwood in Portland, OR. during a dedication of a new 4 mile bike& hike trail, with fence that was built next to the R.R. right of way. The day was June 28, 03 and train rides were offered all day. Former S. P. steam engine 4449 also participated. The R.R. is a short line freight road that runs restored diesels but was a former electric interurban line until 1960. This was the first time real steam was used on this line since the early 20th century! (The electric line ran 2 steam engines for work trains, occasionally) The 57,000 volt tower line along the track was built in 1911. See my pics of it in "Insulators in Service". |
