My friend and long time DJIC member Calvin H. Baker. 78, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died Dec. 17, 2020, at home, surrounded by his family after a years-long battle with cancer. Calvin was born on July, 5, 1942, in Sacramento, California, to Elmer and Lucea Baker. He was a 1960 SUHS graduate. An avid trout fisherman, he also enjoyed skipping classes at Modesto Junior College for the ski slopes at Dodge Ridge and Heavenly Valley. He was an Army veteran, having proudly served with the combat engineers in South Korea and Fort Knox. He met the love of his life of 52 years, Barbara, at a Halloween party in the Bay Area. An accounting graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, Calvin worked for Union Carbide in Grand Junction, Colorado, moved to Georgia, retiring with Barbara to North Carolina where they enjoyed the beauty of the Smoky Mountains, genealogy, and volunteering at the Veterans Hospital in Asheville. Calvin is survived by Barbara; two sons, Mark (Ali) of Cumming, Georgia, and Tyler (Nicole), of Jefferson, Georgia; grandchildren Brayden, Caleb and Carter; siblings Carolyn, Carl and John.
