I have now been working on these lamps for about 6 months and the restoration is ongoing. This work has required hundreds of hours of research. Locating all the 100+ year old GE documents, photos and technical manuals for these units has presented a real challenge. I have also had to repair and fabricate numerous parts, rewind some magnet coils with new wire, rewind the resistance coils as well as carefully dismantle and clean every part nut bolt and screw. These lamps operated on a unique 4 amp DC consent current series circuit with each lamp consuming 310 watts @67 volts (which swung as high as 125 volts during operation) This will require a special power supply to operate. My hope is to eventually do an educational demonstration video of this technology in operation once the lamp is complete and fully operational again. This though is likely to take many more months as I still have a number of components to fabricate. I also need to have new glass shades made by a glass blower since the originals are impossible to find. I am not really a street lamp collector but find these unique pieces of extinct technology fascinating and I like the challenge of trying to make them work again. Considering there were once hundreds of thousands once hanging from urban power poles, they seem like a great go-with to balance out my obsession with early high voltage power porcelain power insulators and pole line hardware.
