This is an overview of the street light fixture that was recently installed by the Hingham Light Plant that was an improvement compared to the earlier types the system had prior to 1906. The newer lights allowed the street light servicer to extend a wooden pole with a spring-loaded grip on the end to attach to the lightbulb's socket and then pull it out (the porcelain socket had bayonet contacts). This allowed much safer relamping operation. Click "Previous" for a close view of this fixture. |
