The next few posts will cover various insulators which were unique to the Southern Railroad (often called Georgia Southern Railroad) and not found on the Central of Georgia Railroad. Most of my collecting was on the Southern Railway route from Macon, GA South to Savanna, GA. My best collecting location was in Dodge County between Gresston, GA and Eastman, GA. The unique telegraph style insulators included: CD 153 Brookfield; CD 169 Whitall Tatum No. 4; CD 157 Hemingray 38 and CD 157 Brookfield. The first post will cover the CD 153 Brookfield.

CD-153 Brookfield - 3 Piece Mold - Teal Blue

There were a reasonable number of the CD 153 Brookfield found on the Gresston, GA section of the Southern Railroad. However, they were outnumbered by CD 152 Brookfield and CD 154 Hemingray 42 insulators which were common in all areas of Georgia. The CD 153 Brookfield color ranged from teal blue aqua to green, green with amber streaks and olive green. For a long time, I dismissed the CD 153 as being common and not worth my effort. I have the CD 153 Brookfield in deep colors and one that is almost black-glass, but there still in a box that has not been unpacked in nearly 50 years.
