The CD 143.5 was found in 1969 during Wood Duck hunting along a small Georgia stream. Directions to the location are as follows: travel south on 129 from Warner Robins AFB to the town of Bonaires, GA; turn left /east on 96 (you will cross the Ocmulgee River, two ponds on the left, and will cross the Georgia Southern Railway); turn left (north) on 129 /23 & GA87; go through Bullard, GA to a logging /local road south of the J. M. Huber Clay Company mine site on the west side of 129. Off the local road, there is a wooded area with a small stream and a swampy area. I was walking along the pine trees with the Huber clay pits in the distance north of my location and found an area where there was a lot of broken CD 143.5 glass - searching the area I found several partial insulators and this one complete CD 143.5 in excellent condition. It appears that someone used most of these insulators for target practice. The fact that this CD 143.5 was partially buried and found several hundred yards from most of the broken glass suggests there was a secondary electrical line in the area at one time. I'm thinking that is might have run down to the Huber clay pits. I felt very lucky to make this find. |
