Photo taken during August 1965. I used to *really* haunt places like this when I was a kid :-). Neat 4kv crossover pole with a three-phase transformer bank, sporting a 400-watt GE mercury vapor street light having a remotely mounted ballast (the canister-looking thing on the pole). Interestingly this fixture has an integrally mounted photocontrol (opposed to a separately wired one). These were a special type of mercury luminaire design made for Massachusetts Electric between 1955 and 1959 and many used within their service territories. Note the cobblestone pavement. Lawrence is a city in northeastern Massachusetts. |
