Drive-In Theatre, 1939, Boston Area. The Big Screen is Ready For Opening Night!

This was among the first drive-in theatres here in the Boston vicinity. Note the screen's unique boxy design...very much like those huge projection TVs we recall from the 1980s and 1990s. Certainly the architecture of this simplistic, art-deco and perhaps elegant outdoor movie screen was the talk of the town and far beyond. It was state-of-the-art in its day and way ahead of its time when it comes to the screen's design. I do not know how long the screen nor this drive-in theatre were in existance. I do not think there were individual speakers on cords for in-car listening. Rather, those are two BIG speakers on top of the screen and they did the sound work! When this (and the following two) photos were taken, the theatre was undergoing finishing touches for opening night :-)
