Lived here 32 years and never saw one of these until today. Just hanging out on the side of the house. Good sized at just under 3" A patrolling ant came by and checked it out and then went on his way. Was likely just as surprised as I was. Found out it's a Monarch butterfly.

Also found out those markings are a warning for being poisonous to predators.
