A good example of nature's awesome power - this is the Dille diversion dam in the Big Thompson Canyon above Loveland, CO. I understand that the floods sent 20 times the river's normal flow roaring down the canyon. One casualty was Loveland's historic hydroelectric project further up the canyon; all the major components were damaged severely enough the city scrapped the dam and replaced its transmission line with a modern long-distance distribution circuit (one pole is visible; it gave way to an underground cable and pad-mount transformer along the repaired roadway).
