Over the Independence Day long weekend, I hit a couple of area flea markets. Some seeds that I had planted with a couple of vendors earlier in the year came to fruition. On the left is what I believe to be a U-217 No Name white porcelain transposition. It is sold: [id=567195164] for more details. On the right is a M-2435 Victor with great mottled and speckled reddish brown glaze. This one is also sold: [id=567195199] for more photos and details. But the best piece was the gem in a box of about twenty-five commons. The vendor had been saving the box in her car for several weeks waiting to run into me again. As I opened the aqua Hemi-42, the aqua Brookfield toll, the aqua NET&T baby beehive, all in good condition mind you, I fantasized about one of the newspaper-wrappers coming off to reveal a threadless gem. Yeah, right! And then, I opened the piece in the middle: a fairly minty CD 160.7 base-embossed two-date American in what I believe to be Lyndeborough blue with scads of micro-bubbles, snow, and white junk everywhere! The pinhole and threads are so perfectly formed you can see the outline of all of the joints and hinges of the expandable mandrel. When I explained to the vendor that most of the pieces in the box were quite common, and that she could offer them for sale at about four bucks apiece and take offers from two to four bucks, she was grateful for the info. When I offered her a fair price for the American, I thought she was going to cry. She was afraid that she wasn't going to make her table rent that day, but after that was covered many times over, she promised to bring "the other, larger box of insulators" for my first looks. COOL! This piece is a HUGE upgrade to my collection and is not for sale. Sorry. [id=567195391] for more detailed photos. |
