Algonquin wolf

We have coyotes around the house. no big deal, but the one I saw this morning, I initially mistook for a deer. Bigger and more wolf like, I wondered if it was a more northerly species called the Algonquin wolf. So I googled it, and this is the page that came up. On the left, it is not a sub-species; then on the right, it is.

Finding contradicting information is not unusual, but these two articles are the lead items on the top of page one.

So, since I read it on the internet, one must be true,
