A picture of a steel pole on the Loveland municipal system's 23kV transmission line, while it still stood. This line went up in 1925, making it one of the earliest 'modern' transmission lines, but after the 2013 flood destroyed the city's hydroelectric plant in the Big Thompson Canyon, the city embarked on a project to rebuild the canyon distribution system from the city's West substation all the way to the village of Drake. As of late August 2018, it appears all the 2400V delta distribution at the canyon's mouth has been replaced with 12.5kV distribution, and the city's crews are apparently days away from being able retire the 23kV line in favor of a new segment of 12.5kV, leaving only the 4160V distribution beyond the Colorado Cherry Store, which is the last segment to be upgraded. |
