Remember Dead Man's Curve by Jan & Dean? The song narrates a fictional but gripping street race between the driver of a Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray and that of a Jaguar XKE along Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California. In the second verse are these lines:

I flew past La Brea, Schwab's, and Crescent Heights

And all the Jag could see were my six taillights

Wait a minute. A Corvette Sting Ray with SIX taillights? That wasn't an official Chevrolet option for the Corvette. In early '60s southern California, however, auto customization was very cool. Instructions on how to install extra taillights on your 'Vette appeared in numerous do-it-yourself and auto customization periodicals.
