I stopped by a new antique/junk store today and saw a few wheelbarrows full of slag glass chunks, priced by the pound. They came in all colors - clear, yellow striped, dark green, fizzy aqua, root beer, cobalt, and purple, and of course combinations of all of the above. This piece is a rough square about 5" on a side and 3" deep, and weighs around 6 pounds. According to the owner, they all came from an Owens-Illonois plant. The nearest one to me is Waco, Tx. What do y'all think? Does this story hold water? I wouldn't think a big plant would do anything other than the standard clear, kelley green and root beer brown. Regardless, they're still neat pieces to put in a window. |
