Just over the ridge from us is the Mokelumne River canyon, which is where the historic Electra Powerhouse sits. This was the first early hydroelectric plant to deliver power over long distance, to San Francisco, and for which the glass/porcelain Locke M-2795 was developed. The fire moved over the ridgetop, then for the next several days, raced up the canyon. This picture a few days ago from the ridgetop, to the left-center in the distance, you can see the penstock pipe dropping to Electra Powerhouse, and the blackened burning canyon. Use View Original |
