Several ancient brown insulators have a glaze that shows slight metallic reflections. A selection of Italian items (L to R): a large early power insulator, with the shape of 1907 (aka Um) telegraph type; a Tivoli insulator (1892); a telegraph 1869 (aka U) type; a small telephone from the 1890s. Tivoli and 1869 are incuse marked GINORI, and have the firing rest on both skirts, typical of Ginori insulators of that era; the small telephone insulator is marked RICHARD. In 1896 Richard and Ginori Companies merged to form the Richard Ginori concern. |
