It was a snow free winter up until a month ago. Then we got a couple feet of snow and now it has an ice crust. Makes surviving harder for all the wildlife. I've taken to feeding the few turkeys that have become residents in the nearby bush. Today is bitter cold and windy as well. This bird and many of his friends have spent the last couple hours in the yard where I've removed the snow and on our porch feeding. This one cleaned out the dogs dish and it seems is now sound asleep on one foot with his head and neck tucked under a wing. It was 15 minutes or more. Five years ago there were no birds here. Then the ministry introduced three and they have multiplied every year since. |
