May 31st, 1999 saw the passing of Conrail. This was the last day Conrail operated at a corporate entity. At midnight this night, CR would cease to exist, being split between CSXT and NS. This is CR train NLPI 31 with A former DRGW unit, painted SP, owned by UP, on the lead. Unlike the BNSF merger, the CR merger brought an immediate change in operations. This day it is a Conrail train. Tomorrow, the same coming out of North Little Rock, AR from the UP eastward to Pittsburgh, PA would run with its new CSX train ID. |
