Here is a part of the old Pokegama rail bed above Copco (California-Oregon Power Co-op) Lake just below the Oregon-California border. This line was a spur off the old SP Siskiyou branch, and was built around 1906, and abandoned within 10 years. There are still a few rails to be seen, and many crude ties. I have only found 3-4 possible pole stumps, but there are a pair of wires running along it in several spots...but no signs of any insulators. Pokegama is pronounced either po-KEG-oh-mah, or Poke-a-GAHM-ah (supposedly the native-American pronunciation of "poker-game"). |
