DeeDee and I wish all our fellow collectors the HAPPIEST holidays, the MERRIEST Christmas, and a PROSPEROUS New Year. That piece on the right is a Goodyear vulcanized rubber "Hat" ( the smaller size) with its original wooden pin. This was part of the telegraph line that was extended over the Sierra Nevada mountains to Fort Churchill in 1860 by the Placerville, Humboldt & St. Joseph Telegraph Company. The glass insulator is a U. S. TELCO, Chester threadless with original wire and splice used on the United States Telegraph Company rebuild of the transcontinental telegraph line in 1864. The Wood Block Ramshorn is from the Overland Telegraph Company build of the western section of the first transcontinental telegraph line in 1861. The iron piece is a version of the Batchelder design, patent #8418, patented Oct. 14, 1851. |
