This signal is active in Newport, ME. (note it faces opposite platform.) ( It is also right on an ATV trail, so I think I'd be hard pressed to get bagged for "trespassing" here.) While the road crossing horn blasts are standardized, each company may have different blasts for different meanings. My brother ( train enthusiast) thinks that the "1-1-0-0" on the pole means the engineer is to sound two long blasts and two short ones here. I don't know for sure that it's true, but if it is it's interesting that train horns used a system of 1s and 0s (probably predating physical 'signals'). I'm sure nothing big will ever come from using a system of ones and zeroes! |
