Most of us hate these things and when we see them 99.99% of them are ugly-fugly sun-bleached into any of the many yellow and/or amber shades they are found in. In fact some simply crack (self-destruct) by themselves when exposed to the direct UV of sunlight over the years and sometimes on account of voltage/current surges due to lightning. Anyway, here is one that is unused, been exposed to nothing but darkness within its original box since its manufacture around 40 years ago...until very recently.

Added notes: Ma Bell never went for these. They bought Kerr's up until 1975 although production ended in 1978. For replacements after the Bell System breakup on January 1, 1984 continuing companies including Verizon have been and still use in-stock leftovers (NOS Kerrs, Armstrongs and used glass in good condition) for rural openwire as replacements (at least here in New England), albeit steel openwire in these remote locations for individual subscribers is quite uncommon nowadays.
