They say you shouldnt go shopping for groceries when youre hungry because you might make impulse purchases. You probably shouldnt go antiquing when you are bored and have loose money or you might buy Impulse Sprinklers. These were developed for orchards, golf courses and the like, not for home use. The 2 examples here were patented in the early 1940s which hardly qualifies them as antiques but since the first impulse sprinkler wasn't invented until the mid 1930s, it does make them early for these. The impulse of the water affected the mechanism to make it travel a full or partial arc to water a section of property. All components are brass, they are heavy and complicated and a lot of thought and engineering went into them. Brass, being another form of money, these were saved only for the next trip to the scrap yard which adds to the challenge of collecting the early ones. |
