Needham is a suburb west of Boston. For many years this community was served by Boston Edison Company. The latter utility always used glass double petticoat insulators for their primary and secondary lines. Their service territory is now owned by NStar Electric. Glass insulators are *still* frequently transferred from one pole to the newer ones during pole upgrades. Practically all are of the deep groove double petticoat design, notably CD 164 Armstrongs, Brookfields, Gayners, Whitall Tatums, Hemingray-20s and Lynchburgs as well as CD 165.1 Whitall Tatums and CD 167 Armstrong insulators..... by the many, many thousands. Added note: Nothing excedingly rare has ever been found among their discards except for smooth base CD 164 Lynchburgs, notably those in yellow-green with No. 38-20 lettering). Kimble insulators were also popularly used by Boston Edison through the early 1960s especially for 13.8 kv and many remain active service by NStar as well ;-)
