We set up hammocks on an open air car carrier which turned out to be awesome. Riding an empty rail car can be extremely hard on ones self. The jolting and jostling are none stop and only after an 8-10 hour ride do you realize the amount of energy you can use up just to keep from bouncing around. The hammocks took all the hard jolts away and were an excellent place to view the scenery and openwire as it went by. Although this type of car has become extinct, I would caution folks that most mountain tunnels cleared the top of this car by 6" or so..... easy to lose one's head if you're not aware of your surroundings.
