Shawinigan Falls Transformer Room

This is a picture of the transformer room of Shawinigan-1 taken between 1903 and 1909. Notice the charming white M-3250 insulators holding the high voltage secondaries. Unfortunately this whole structure was demolished in the 1950s along with the beautiful Shawinigan Insulators. Along with the M-3250, there appears to be a U-944 type of insulator hiding amongst the rafters.

The pipes coming out of the prehistoric looking transformers were part of a fire suppression system that would dump the oil out and replace it with water according to Cassier's Magazine. It also would allow them to filter and change the oil when necessary.
