Picture shows two old 25 KVA transformers wired together as series parallel on a former Winnipeg Hydro pole. Each transformer gives 120 V and together provided 120/240. This was an old Winnipeg Hydro method used to save transformer costs because 25 KVA transformers were much cheaper than 50 KVA and higher. Doing this allowed two 25 KVA transformers to provide the same power as one 50 KVA.

Manitoba Hydro had a similar method, except instead of series parallel where each transformer provided one 120 volt leg, Manitoba Hydro used to parallel both transformers together directly. This method obviously isn't as good because if one transformer fails, the other had to pick up all the load.
