Sometimes faint (or strong), distorted (or normal) lettering can be seen above the actual embossing on an insulator. This is termed "ghost embossing." "Ghosting" can include partial, or all of the original embossing. A lot of ghosting is weaker, but some can actually be stronger than the normal embossing. Ghosting can be located anywhere above the original - some has even been found at the very tip of the dome!
