Mysteries of applied insulators

This insulator, in possession of my friend Guido who found it in Abruzzo a week ago, is very strange.

It seems to be a mix of an UM (Unità Modificato) and a "cylinder-head". Perhaps it could be a special telegraph insulator, since it has the groove very thin for small conductors. It is unmarked and we do not know its country of origin but probably, it is a very old italian (late 1800s) new type telegraph insulator discovered.
