Due to the recent discussion on the Baker & Cutting Glass Factory and San Francisco Glass Works, a request arrived for pics of the CD 1010 California Sleeves. Here are two complete examples and three shards, all displaying the crudity of the 1859/60 glass made by B&C. (Sorry, it was difficult to capture all pieces with proper exposure due to the varying densities of the glass.) The light lemon jade Vaseline in the lower middle is truly a beautiful piece of glass, but likely viewed as inferior quality glass back in the day. The top left is a deep jade green. Bottom left is very dark orange amber. |
