I can not decide if this piece of Canadian glass is a pen holder, ink tray, dental instrument tray or some sort of battery rest....The grooves in the ends of the glass makes me think it was secured to something at one time.

Any ideas?

Answer : It's the base of a pen holders for dip (ink well type) pens.
